Located 15 minutes from Chapel Hill, our property is one of the original Relais & Chateaux destinations in North America since 1980, complete with an award-winning fine-dining restaurant, luxury 32-room inn, spa, boutique shops, a beer and pizza garden, events spaces, and one of the state’s last remaining independent bookstores.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Hourly compensation depends on experience
- After a 90-day probation period, the employee is entitled to the following:

The Fearrington House Restaurant
The Fearrington House Restaurant, a Relais & Châteaux property renowned for its refined Southern hospitality and exceptional cuisine, is seeking a talented and dedicated Baker to join our culinary team.
Position Overview:
The Baker is responsible for producing high-quality breads and pastries that reflect the standards of a world-class kitchen. This role requires strong technical skill, consistency, and a passion for traditional baking and laminated doughs.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and bake a variety of artisan breads, including sourdoughs, yeasted breads, and specialty loaves
Execute laminated doughs for pastries such as croissants, pain au chocolat, danish, and seasonal viennoiserie
Maintain consistency, quality, and presentation across all baked goods
Follow established recipes while contributing creativity and seasonal ideas when appropriate
Manage fermentation, proofing, and baking schedules with precision
Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work environment
Collaborate closely with the pastry and culinary teams to support restaurant and special event needs
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a professional baker, preferably in a fine dining or boutique hotel environment
Strong knowledge of bread baking techniques and laminated dough production
Understanding of fermentation, dough handling, and temperature control
Ability to work early mornings and weekends as required
Attention to detail, organization, and a commitment to excellence
Culinary education preferred but not required with equivalent experience

- Completed a Baker/Patisserie Apprentice Program and/or Baking and Pastry Arts Management program
- Knowledge in a wide range of ingredients.
- Knowledge of baking equipment and techniques.
- Knowledge in precautionary measures for possible hazards - WHMIS.
- Must also patient, detail-oriented, creative and organized.
- Able to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50lbs.
