The Ocean House Collections includes 3 luxury properties. 

The Ocean House is a Forbes 5-Star property featuring 49 luxury guest rooms and 20 signature suites.  The Cottage Collection includes 10 privately owned vacation homes.  The Ocean & Harvest Spa is a 12,000 square foot Forbes Travel Guide 5-Star rated full-service health wellness spa. Over 10,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space. Up to 8 unique dining options during the summer season including Coast, a Forbes Travel Guide 5 Star rated fine dining experience.

 

The Weekapaug Inn offers quintessentially New England accommodations that effortlessly combine casual comfort and luxurious furnishings. The Inn features 31 unique guest rooms and 4 two-bedroom signature suites. Farm-to-table dining utilizes the finest and freshest locally sourced ingredients, and inspired amenities and resort activities are designed to create extraordinary guest experiences. 

 

The Watch Hill Inn established in 1845, Watch Hill Inn carries with it a unique history marked by fame, natural disasters, and, among all, resilience. Chic, minimalist decor intertwines with cutting-edge technology like complimentary Apple TV, Netflix, and an in-room iPad program that allows guests to order food and services at their door with the touch of a button.  The Inn features 21 suite-style accommodations with unrestricted access to dining, amenities, and resort activities at both Ocean House and Weekapaug Inn.

 

 

 


Scope of Position

The primary function of the Group Director of Sales & Marketing is in the development and solicitation of business from all markets to ensure the necessary bookings needed for a successful and profitable operation for the Ocean House Management (OHM). Responsible for providing direct oversight of the following key areas; Group Sales, Leisure Sales, Revenue management, Reservations, Catering and Conference Services, Marketing, Communications & Public Relations.  


Schedule Requirements

The operation is 24 hours a day 7 days a week, inclusive of all holidays.  While the company will make every attempt to create a work-life balance, all exempt team members may be required to work extended shifts and additional days based on business demands.  Working more than eight hours per day and more than five consecutive days as needed is an essential job function for all exempt roles.  Travel may be required and may include some overnight stays.  All exempt team members should be responsible for scheduling their time off.  The busiest of days during the season (Memorial Day through Columbus Day) are the weekend days from Friday through Sunday and on holiday weekends that are celebrated on Mondays, this can include Mondays.  All exempt associates must be aware and able to work all weekends; requesting time off for a holiday weekend may not and will likely not be granted.  The more flexible you are the more you can learn, grow, and earn.

 

Key Relationships

Internal:  This position reports to the President and Managing Director of Ocean House Management. The position must work closely with all properties in the Ocean House Collection portfolio.

External:  Develop and maintain relationships with travel industry partners. Has regular contact with the company’s clients, prospective clients, guests, members, and owners to enhance the image of the Company OHM and the attainment of its objectives.

  • The development and solicitation of business from all markets to ensure the necessary bookings needed for a successful and profitable operation for the hotel.

•     Maintain a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates top-quality personnel, and firms.

•     Recruit, train, appraise, supervise, support, develop, promote and guide qualified personnel.

•     Design, support, and oversee cross-functional teams throughout the Organization and its outside firms.

•     Responsible for budgeting and expenses of the Sales and Marketing division including Group Sales, Leisure Sales, Revenue management, Reservations, Catering and Conference Services, Marketing, Communications & Public Relations, hereafter referred to as the S & M division.

•     Direct the solicitation efforts of the sales associates through effective oral and written communication while overseeing rate, date, and space commitments for group room sales within the hotel.

•     Administer the associates; training, and performance reviews for the S & M division.

•     Ensure training programs are conducted regularly.

•     Give guidance and counsel associates toward improvement.

•     Compiles and/or directs the preparation of reports about the operation of the S & M division to include, but not limited to the annual and monthly Forecast, Budget, Lead Management System, Booking Report, Answer Net reports, and S & M division Meeting minutes.

•     Coordinate ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends and related information for the development of new marketing strategies. Make reasonable recommendations to improve potential from various markets.

•     Develop and conduct persuasive sales presentations to prospective clients.  Internally and externally promote The Ocean House Collection.

•     Meet with and entertain clients some of which will require travel.

•     Organize and/or attend scheduled S & M division and related meetings.

•     Provide oversite of property site inspections with potential clients to meet goals as set.

•     Attend industry-related trade shows in various destinations around the world. 

•     Other duties as assigned by the President and Managing Director.

 

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Education

 

•     College degree preferred preference for a degree in hospitality or marketing.

•     Minimum of 5 years of luxury sales experience and 2 years of executive-level management experience required.

•     Prior hotel sales experience required with luxury market /resort preferred.

•     Must be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.   

  • Position is based out of the Destination Services Office in Westerly RI, not a remote position.

•     Knowledge of the travel industry, current market trends, and economic factors.

•     Extensive skill in the development and delivery of sales presentations.

•     Ability to access, understand, and accurately input information using the Reservations Systems.                                              

•     Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers and associates, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy, collect accurate information, and resolve conflicts.

•     Ability to stand and move throughout the hotel properties and continuously perform essential job functions

•     Ability to read, listen, and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

•     Work independently with little or no supervision.

•     Strong decision-making skills

•     Ability to organize resources and prioritize assigned tasks

•     Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks and projects effectively and efficiently

•     Ability to supervise and train associates, including organizing, prioritizing, and daily operations.

•     Skilled in developing and training quality associates.  

•     Uphold the Company standards, policies, and procedures.

•     Ability to remain calm and resolve problems using good judgment as interpreted by the management.

•     Work cohesively with the Executive Committee and S & M Division as part of a team.

•     Maintain confidentiality of guest/associates information and pertinent hotel data.
